I’m participating in a United Cardinals Bloggers project. It’s a game blog where 9 UCB bloggers take an inning and blog about it.
I’ve got the 7th inning.
The View From Here has the 6th.
My inning! Joe Kelly is still in, and he just got Scott Van Slyke to ground out. He’s at 95 pitches, pretty good for a guy making just his 2nd start after a long DL stint. Juan Uribe popped out to short, followed by AJ Ellis grounding out to short.
Kelly has gone 7 strong innings, allowing one run on 4 hits. I hope he gets the chance to stay in the game, but I understand if they err on the side of caution and take him out.
Kolten Wong has doubled to left. He continues to be a hot hitter, raising his average up over to .250, Peter Bourjos sacrificed to the pitcher, getting Wong over to third. Bourjos came in earlier as a replacement for Matt Holliday who left after possibly getting injured in a collision with Hanley Ramirez earlier in the game. Luckily Holliday tested negative for a concussion and is listed day to day. He’d been heating up sdo hopefully he won’t be out long.
Matt Adams struck out. Can’t fault Adams too much here, as he already hit a two run homer today and he continues to be one of the games underrated stars.
Jhonny Peralta was intentionally walked, bringing up Allen Craig who was pinch-hitting for Oscar Taveras. I disagree with this move. I think Oscar deserves all the at bats he can get. Plus we need to see how he does with runners in scoring position.
And Craig grounds out. of course he does. Stop playing “your guys” Matheny!
Welp, there goes my inning! It was fun to see Kelly burn through the Dodgers. I hope he continues to progress well. We can certainly use him in the rotation. And if today is a sign, maybe we’ll have another pitcher who can regularly make it to the 7th inning or later without giving up too many runs, which’ll ease some of the stress on the bullpen.
Thanks for reading! This has been fun!
Now onto the 8th from On The Outside Corner
