Cardinals All-Stars?

Just a quick post here, designed to hopefully get some comments and maybe even a discussion going.

Who’re the Cardinals potential All-Stars?

The Sure Fire All-Stars:
Adam Wainwright (2 Previous Appearances, including last year)
Yadier Molina (5 Previous Appearances, including last year)

Both are having good seasons and have multiple selections in the past, making them easy choices.

Up for discussion:
Matt Adams
Pat Neshek

Neither has ever been in an All-Star game before. Let’s examine both.

Adams is having a very unexpected year. Many expected middling average with above average power. Instead we’re getting a high average with middling power. Case in point: Adams leads the league with 22 multi-hit games. His overall stat line:

.326 Average 3 HR’s, 17 RBI’s .338 OBP
His slugging isn’t bad, at .472, thanks to 15 doubles, already higher than his total of 14 he had all of last year. While he won’t start, I think a case can be made for him as a reserve. His walks are low and he strikes out a lot, but so does everybody this year.

Pat Neshek has been the best reliever in the Cardinals bullpen, and I think, if Rosenthal struggles, a case can be made for Neshek as a closer. While he’s currently not a closer, his stats are eye popping and thus he is a worthy candidate. The stats:

25 G, 22.2 Innings Pitched, 0.79 ERA, 24 SO, 3 Walks.

It’s a small sample size, but those are some pretty good stats. He’s been lights out, so I think a case can be made.

Any other candidates? Opinions on the ones I mentioned? Comments please!
